Some of the comments received - are you listening, Councillors?

Well over 1000 - these are just some . And they were sent before this

web page went up with the facts.

Please note: These are a very small sample of the many many comments on facebook re the need to SAVE NOWRA COMMUNITY POOL.

Start taking more things away (such as Nowra pool) from our community for our younger generation are not going to have much to do here at all. Yes we still have Bomaderry but the kids loved Nowra for the etc activities such as slides. No disrespect to to older generation but the shoalhaven council are turning this town into a retirement village.....Good on ya`s

Ok Shoalhaven Council fix the leak and do the pool up as a long term resident of Nowra I have watched many families including my own have fun as a family at the pool. Why cant you leave this one alone and upgrade it instead of planning how much money it would make if you got your hot greedy hands on the land at the river...

I am not surprised Nowra Council is once again showing their "wisdom" what a joke - Leave the pool alone - let the public have something - children and families need this in summer - after all they pay your wages ....remember what happened to Wollongong Council.......

I (NAME REMOVED FOR PRIVACY REASONS) HAS SWAM IN NOWRA POOL FOR 50 YEARS AND A MEMBER OF NOWRA SWIMMING CLUB BEST POOL TO SWIM IN UP GRADE THE NOWRA POOL AND DON'T SELL IT .

Ahh fix the leak that keeps costing council all the money and do it up a bit and watch all the locals use it and see why it is a stupid idea to get rid of it!

i cant believe the shoalhaven city council would do this i grew up in that pool now how is everyone gonna cool down n talking about it just as summer is coming what a joke, good to see the council hasnt changed much since i was there, keep up the good work !!!!!!!!!!

They are on today about OBESITY!!!! fix this and take another sport away.......The local council put so much effort in putting the skate park in why not do the same to keep our pool. My kids grew up swimming and enjoying the club nights there. It was a controlled safe enviroment. Where do they expect this generation to go. They dont offer any water activities for Children or families on the river unless you have boat ex.

Why get so greedy for a Motel....havent they got rich enough homes to entertain their guets in, why dont they support our already set up motels and B&Bs in town and around areas. GREEED MONEY and another White Elephant to be built. They havent worked out the Entertainment centre yet. Leave our POOL alone, just fix it for the NOW generation Is that too much. Our Mayor has 6 kids where do they go?????

I grew up coming in from Vincentia during the holidays to swim at the pool. Both of my children have used the pool for training and swimming carnivals through club and school. What they are proposing to do is stupid. A lot of children can walk to nowra pool during the holidays, not so easy for them to walk to Bomaderry. If you are going to get rid of it then build a proper leisure centre to replace it, not a bloody high rise building

I also grew up using the Nowra Pool. It is within resonable walking distance for most of the town. If the kids are forced to walk even further over to the Bomaderry Pool there will be a growing number of kids that just won't bother and will start swimming in the River. I can see that there are going to be kids drowning in the river without the safety of lifeguards. What is the council going to do then???

This is really bad many events swimming carnivals have been held. It was a souce of community gathering on hot summer evenings 30 years ago and probaly still is.

(name removed) begann her swimming career at club events whilst also living nearby. Many other swimmers have too.

this move will have a detremental effect on Nowra when there are fewer healthy things to do in town

Come on Shoalhaven Council do the right thing and invest in the future of nowra as well as preseve history as well

Just like the council.. Its aliright for them to hike up rates and so forth for their own pay packets and waste tax payers money on crap that is really not needed but come on the nowra pool... It is so worth keeping and fighting for. I remember having swimming carnivals when i was at school.... And the Nowra pool was the place to have them.... For the size of this town and how hot the weather is getting and with climate change where are people supposed to go.... Bomaderry couldnt cope with the influx and where is the other closest pool.... Way out of town... The council need to wake up to themselves and listen to the community that pay there wages and who elect them into office as our representatives...This is an investment for the future and for our kids and the community.... Shoalhaven Council DO THE RIGHT THING>>>>>>>

funny how had enough money to build brand new entertainment cente but cant afford to fix our pool.

Everyone else has probably already said this, but the importance of a pool within walking distance of Nowra kids cannot be overstressed. For that matter, there are Nowra adults who walk to the pool frequently. We need to serve the needs of the whole community. Let's fix it and save our community amenities.

No nowra needs the pool. all the people who cannot travel to bay & basin or even to bomaderry because of transport . nowra council need to pull there heads in and stop doing things the public dont want as they are here only to represent... Read More the people of there costitusants. WAKE UP AS NOWRA COUNCIL AND MANY OTHER GET AWAY WITH TO MUCH UNDERHANDED ACTIVITIES. come on everyone on facebook should get behind and say no.

3 generations from my family have enjoyed using the nowra pool over the span of 50 years as i'm sure have many other residents in nowra. it does not surprise me that the council have decided to cash in on the very valuable real estate to "increase tourism" when we have a fantastic river offering many opportunities to increase the tourism in the shoalhaven but it isn't ever used to anywhere near it's potential, very sad shoalhaven council very sad. I had hoped that my daughter would be able to carry on our family swimming in the nowra pool and swimming club.don't get rid of it FIX IT UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i used to bring my children to swim in nowra pool from berry, then they joined an old stalwart bill webster in his squad. now they all grown up i have grandchildren swimming there now the slide is a big part of the great fun that is had there. Please do not ignore the fact that it would be an absolute insult to karen higginson nee phillips who swam and meddled for australia at the olympics she trained in this pool common shoalhaven get behind this cause stop council from closure.

Ahhh the memories of swimming carnivals whilst at Shoalhaven High back in the 90's waterslides were good too..........

SAVE THE POOL IT IS SWELTERING HOT AND BOMODERRY IS TO FAR AWAY WE NEED NOWRA POOL DESPERATLY!!

Why cant we all get together and raise funds to have the pool repaired? Get local tradesman to donate their time to fix it and do it up? If we as a community turned around to the council and said you know what we wont let you close our pool! we are going to fix it! Surely they would have to take us up on that offer! Cant we get today tonight or something like that and the newspapers behind us??? Come on Shoalhaven its our pool lets actually do something to keep it!

I love the Nowra Pool... I spend all my summer there as a little kid...

When I was a kid, we used to travel 10 hrs in the car to have our Christmas in Nowra with some rellies. One of the great things I remember about those vacations was the Nowra Pool. I want my kids to have a crqack at that waterslide like I did. Keep your hands of the pool, Shoalhaven, ya bastards.

I lived at berry for years and every summer i used to bring my children to swim at nowra pool with my sister inlaw and her children. then when they were school age they joined a squad for training now I'm back after children grown up with grandchildren they love the water slide in summer. comon people we need all of us to stick together on keeping the pool opened...

I love the Nowra Pool... I spend all my summer there as a little kid...

No way .... save our pool !!!!!

MaKe It StAy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A big thumbs up to (name removed) for flying the "Save Nowra Community Pool" banner at the Nowra race track on Melbourne Cup day.

I have been waiting for the Nowra pool to open to take my kids there as we have recently moved to North Nowra. My husband just informs me that there was a deliberate lack of advertising in an attempt to prevent the pool having demand. My husband and I attended Shoalhaven High and attended many swimming carnivals at Nowra pool.

Leave the zoning the way it is and let the community to enjoy the assets it has.....please! You will see me, my family and friends down there on a regular basis!!

Hey why not take away something else fun to do in Nowra. What else is there for kids to do in the summer when it's hot. There's shit public transport down south to the beaches so kids get bored and make trouble. I remember many years of going to the pools, going on the water slides & than getting hot chips. It's what we have grown up with. Same goes with turning the "Fair" into "Stocklands"... Nowra's population is expanding but Council is taking away it's few attractions and the things that mean anything to anyone. Real big thumbs up for tourism..."Come to Nowra ...to see nothing"

and I want to add- what about the swimming lessons that the Nowra pool provides. I don't think Bomo Pool & the residential swim teacher in North Nowra can provide for the whole of Nowra's children. We want them to learn properly which than reduces the risk of drownings.

(name witheld) thinks that the south coast register could do a lot more than publish crap like they did on the front page? 38 deg and not a ripple, who in there right mind would send there kids out in that heat!!!!

Instead of getting rid of the pool why don't they get rid of the old boat monument near the shoalhaven bridge? it is a true "eye sore".Hey council sell that land off!! Why on earth did council build a huge leasure centre in Vincintia near the beach and not in Nowra where it is hot and NOT near the beach? I'm still scratching my head over that one.

i swam in there too, use to walk from bomaderry over the bridge to get there, swimming carnivals, my parents took me there when i was a baby 45 years ago

I remember stopping to swim in the Nowra pool on many hot summer trips down south. I'm sure many travellers still find it a much better place to cool off & rest up.

Yeah, I grew up swimming in it. I'd hate to see it shut down.

Is there are leak I doubt it I over here are conversation 12 months ago. This is just an excuse so as to sell it off. No one can believe everything Nowra Council says.

NOWRA RESIDENCES NEED THE POOL ..FULL STOP.....

they really want to take something away from the people what about the people who dont have transport and unable to cool down in summer what about our kids not everybody can get over to bomaderry shame on you council instead of filling your (expletive removed) with our taxes put it towards our kids fitness

Shoalhaven City Council have no idea. Nowra goes backwards not forward. Lets take something else away from the ratepayers. Nowra TIME WARP town.

went to the council meeting and i must say i am very disappointed in our so called council members.....they were going on and on about how important it is to instill fitness and wellbeing into our community also about keeping down the obesity in our children.......and this was mentioned quite a few times so their answer to this is to take away our pool....how dam rediculous!!!! it is a beautiful pool with lovely grounds that can be shared between families....it really makes no sense at all to me...a lot of people to do have cars to get over to Bomo and all I can say about public transport is WE DON'T HAVE ANY!!!! at least with the Nowra Pool we can give our children somewhere close to go and have some active fun...I really have no idea what these Councillors are thinking......shame on u shoalhaven city council

Council needs to stop thinking of the real estate value of the Nowra pool site and start thinking of it's community value!

They won't as they have disregarded the residents of Worrigee who are having are problem where public land was sold to developers with no consultation regarding its sale and to community housing. Its sad we elect them and they do not ask us the public what should we do or how can we fix it. People need the pool.

Dudee why would they close this down, there is absolutely nothing to do in Nowra nowadays.....

save our pool, i learnt 2swim there remember the diving boards great fun.

Why can't we all get together and raise funds to have the pool repaired? Get local tradesman to donate their time to fix it and do it up? If we as a community turned around to the council and said you know what we wont let you close our pool! we are going to fix it! Surely they would have to take us up on that offer! Cant we get today tonight or something like that and the newspapers behind us??? Come on Shoalhaven its our pool lets actually do something to keep it!

(name withheld)Do you have children that would have to walk from Worrigee to Bomaderry pool?Or do you have your own pool?

My argument is not only on sentiment.

As I said in my first post:

There are children who would not be able to walk all the way to Bomaderry pool. Not everyone has the luxury of a pool of their own, Or parents that are able to drive them.

Safety issue: Whilst finding Bomaderry too far to walk there will be children who will be tempted to swim unsupervised in the river. Forecast drownings or near drownings in the river due to children finding Bomaderry too far to walk to on a hot day.

I grew up here in Nowra and one of my fondest memories was spending time at the local pool with my family and friends! It was one of the memories that brought me home to Nowra when i had my children! How can the council honestly think that closing the pool is a good idea???  Not only is it a great place for families to go and spend time together but it is all Nowra has!!!!! Where else in central Nowra can children and families go to have a good time (beside the park)? Bowling in Bomaderry, Putt Putt in Worrigee, animal park in North Nowra, Bounce and slide in South Nowra But nothing in central Nowra! And certainly nothing to help beat the heat! How can they expect Children to stay off the street when they are now suggesting that they walk to Bomaderry to have a swim safely or hey kids just go for a swim in the lovely river just don't drown while no one is watching ok! And hello they are expecting families with little money to walk all the way from Nowra to Bomaderry on a boiling hot summers day how can that be considered to even be an option!

It makes me so angry that our council is being so dam greedy and instead of focusing on the future of our children and their community they are focusing on the real estate value of the land! How dare you Shoalhaven Council! Its about time you listened to what the community wants and fix up our already beautiful pool!

yes it would (name withheld) but if the council actually had any morals they wouldn't do half of the things they do!

Yer it's ok for people with money to travel as they usually have their own transport. There are people out there not so lucky so traveling is a huge issue for them. Everyone has the right to have somewhere to go to cool down. Today it is 29 degrees inside so what it is outside we can take are guess. How many people will go to the pool today heaps. Nowra Council have no right to take away our public place put the funds into the pool and fix it. They have no concerns at taking our money to get in why have these costs not been used to keep up the maintenance of the pool? I am really over the councils doing whatever they like with no public consultation or just ignoring what the public want. SAVE OUR POOL...............

Stop wasting money on stupid things like the entertainment centre that they couldn't build right in the first place and car parks for the entertainment centre that sit empty all day and spend money on the NOWRA pool instead! Either upgrade/fix it or build a new one at the same spot. Its a part of Nowra's history and should remain that way!

Both my kids had their swimming lessons at Nowra pool. It is a beautiful pool in a beautiful spot. Leave it there and fix it. You can't expect kids from the southern end of town ( including east and west Nowra) to ride all the way to Bomaderry for a swim especially in the blazing summers we get here.

For goodness sake think of the kids who need access to a pool close by.

I dont think you know what the community here wants. If you did you would not just say what you did. There are a lot of good community citizens using the public pool "Emphasis on THE PUBLIC" who want it to remain open. Not every one has the ways and means to travel to beaches and leisure centres especially when they are out of the town limits. With no public transport running every half hour. Nowra Council needs to sit up and listen to what the people and rate payers of nowra want. Not just taking it upon themselves to do whatever they like and just make more money for there coffers. Also for the council who are probably going to be investors in this resort they are planning for that area. $$$$$$$ is all that matters not people, I really feel Nowra council needs to be invesgated like other councils that have been found to be full of corruption. Like public land that was sold to build community housing on the road to Greenwell Point Road no consultation was given to residence's in that area until someone heard what was going on. So people need to make a stand against the closing of the pool.

We still have squads, school carnivals, hot days at the pool, watersliding, parties. Nothings changed, kids still need good safe access to these facilities. I am getting tired of hearing the "water leakage" issues - they are a myth that Council has put out there. Visit www.savenowracommunitypool.com.au and see the water usage figures for each of the leisure centres and Nowra Pool and you will see the myth explained - they are also not comparing apples and apples. Regarding the cost, Nowra Pool can be totally replaced on site for around $1.5 million (report prepared for Council), another fact that Council has conveniently not explained to ratepayers. If you have a pool in your backyard and it breaks down, do you automatically sell your home? Council has said that because the pool is at the end of its life it must be sold. Why? The answer is easy, Council already has a buyer. They have committed to selling the pool site to Nowra Holdings if the land is changed from "community" to "operational". Now, I would have thought that Council would need to keep at "arms length" regarding property deals and try to protect community land....and consult with "THE PUBLIC" as (name withheld) suggests. There has been no consultation with the public about options to keep Nowra Pool open, just continual downgrading of Nowra Pool in the media - how convenient. Let's look at the Huscorp fiasco. Council entered into discussions with Huscorp for Huscorp to purchase nearby land - the only problem being the land was not Council's to sell, it was community land. Council was investigated by the NSW Dept of Local Govt and found to have acted improperly. Huscorp are now suing Council for $1.9million (more than enough to build a new pool). Approx 2 weeks ago, Council voted to spend $2.05million on extra toilets and an extension to the foyer of the NEW entertainment centre.....toilets v a new pool....at least the pool has lasted 50+ years without major work.

I find it interesting that people who no longer live in nowra are saying yes i swam there now close it its past its use by date... don't other children deserve the same opportunity??

nowra is not a wealthy town no matter what people try and say. take a good look around and not at just the few new development housing estates. there is no way a lot of children will ever get to bomaderry.

check out other community pools, lightning ridge is a good example. this pool complex was built by the community for the community. it has everything for children of all ages. parents with children from 1 -18 can go and know that each child has a safe fun area to swim n play in. maybe nowra needs to get some new ideas to make it more attractive to families with young children?

im just saying look around, gather all your ideas and put up the new proposals, with changes and how the community feels about it and then maybe u can sway council when you can show new plans and ideas and how they community will start using it more. that might be an easier approach rather then saying their idea is bad, show them why and how your idea is better....
